How to stretch belts for Y axis?

I got my MBot3d Cube wood DIY kit yesterday. The building is going okay and all until The last few steps. I need to have 2 belts connecting 2 rods and the extruder on the Y axis, but the belts just wont stretch! I tried a bunch of ways but they just wont go. Is this normal? Am I missing something?

Nevermind, I was able to get the belt on.

for the wood kit ,when we install the Y belt ,we need to cut it first
